We talked about how we build meaning in sentences, talking breifly about syntax and usage. We talked about the scale of literary terms: letters, syllables, words, phrases, clauses, sentences, paragraphs and essays (or other larger works), before making an initial review of the parts of speech. We began to look in detail at nouns, articles, adjectives and pronouns, specifically pointing out how nouns and pronouns can show possession or act asa subject or object. We also took a first look at participles and how they are adjectives formed from verbs.
